SILVER AROWANA

Arowanas are called “bonytongues” due to a toothed bone on the floor of the mouth that meets teeth on the roof of the mouth. They are also known as “dragonfish” due to their resemblance to Chinese dragons.

These fish have upward-facing mouths that are suited for eating crustaceans, insects, and small fish that float on or near the surface of the water.

Silver Arowanas are mouthbrooders, they carry the eggs and larval fish in their mouths to protect them from predators. The male parent is responsible for this important task!

Silver Arowanas can leap 4 feet into the air to catch birds or small mammals that may be on hanging leaves or branches above the water surface.
